Establishing a Yoga Practice

Updated: Aug 6

One of the most important things you can do in your spiritual development is to establish a regular yoga practice. This can be any form of yoga that you prefer, from vigorous, fat-burning hot yoga workouts to a gentle and supportive restorative yoga practice to help you sleep and ease your aches and pains. A regular yoga practice becomes the physical foundation for merging the high-vibration, spiritual growth practices you are developing yourself through with an active, physical practice that will help ground you into your body.

If any of your personal growth goals involve being more active, more flexible, or feeling more comfortable with your body, then yoga is a natural next step to take along your path. Yoga supports your physical health and your practice can be a workout in and of itself or it can be a warmup or cooldown to your preferred workout style. Either way, yoga is an active practice that will help you burn calories, get moving, and stay fit at any season in your life.

One of the best things about yoga is that it meets you where you are. While there are many advanced poses and practices, finding a yoga practice for beginners is very easy and any pose can be adjusted for your comfort level in the current moment. If your personal growth goals include being in less pain, being better able to move around in your body, or just feeling like you fit into your own skin, yoga can be the path that gets you there. I personally prefer gentle, yin yoga practices. These are soothing and focus on gentle stretching and holding each pose for a long period of time. The wonderful thing about yin yoga is that it can help loosen tight joints, provide better mobility, and decrease pain in your body.

Your yoga practice can lead naturally into a deep meditation session, as yoga works not only on your physical body but also on your energy centers. It is one of the most powerful physical practices that you can do to remove blockages or stagnant energy from your body. The individual poses work with different energy centers to break up that which is heavy and stagnant and to get your energy flowing freely and actively again. Some poses or movements in your yoga practice will increase the amount of energy flowing through a given chakra. Going deeper and combining your eye gaze or incorporating 'locks' as well as intentional thought will increase your energy response and will affect your chakras, or energy centers, more and more directly. There is always more to learn with yoga and more ways to deepen your experience.

Finding a yoga class to participate in, whether it is in person or online, opens up a community of like-minded people you can connect with. This can lead you to discover new practices and new routes of healing that speak to you and fit with your personal journey. It can also create connections that support you throughout your life. Some of my very best friends and the most influential people in my life I met through a yoga class. Yoga studios, both in person and online, are meeting grounds for like-minded souls who are doing the healing work they need to grow and develop. Not only will you be better supported in your journey by joining a community, but you will connect with others who are on the same path of growth as you.

Because yoga is such an important practice to incorporate into any personal growth journey, I am so excited to be opening up virtual yoga classes again! If you are looking to start or grow your yoga practice or are hoping to connect with other like-minded souls on your healing journey, then joining this community is a natural next step. Through these classes, we will bring together light and shadow workers from all different areas and walks of life to come together.
